Bipartisan TSCA Reform Bill Sails Through House

Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the TSCA Modernization Act of 2015 (H.R. 2576) with a near-unanimous vote of 398-1. The bipartisan bill now heads to the Senate, where a competing bill (S. 697) advanced last month. Lawmakers will have to resolve key differences between the bills before sending to President Obama. H.R. 2576 would update the 40-year old Toxic Substances Control Act for the first time. House Holds Hearing on Chemical Safety Improvement Act

Today, the Environment and the Economy Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing examining S.1009, The Chemical Safety Improvement Act (CSIA). The bi-partisan legislation that was put together by the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg and Sen. David Vitter has been the focus of a number of hearings by the subcommittee. Today’s hearing saw members of the Senate, the Administration, industry associations, NGO’s and academia take the stage as the witnesses. Reform of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) has been a hot button topic for the last few years, and just a few weeks ago Senators Vitter (R-LA) and Lautenberg (D-NJ) released a bi-partisan legislation that has received a lot of attention. Bi-Partisan TSCA Reform Bill Announced

Sens. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and David Vitter (R-LA) announced a bi-partisan bill to modernize the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The “Chemical Safety Improvement Act of 2013” would see all chemicals in commerce screened for safety in order to protect public health and the environment.
